Yarr..I am a pirate!

The scantily clad, freedom-assassinating Ninja known as the RIAA lurks in the dark recesses of your computer. What do they want with me and all the other innocent music hoodlums?

Truthfully, they are just interested in my money. Or any money they can lay their dirty capitalist paws on.

The average settlement amount offered by the RIAA is about $3,000, so this latest pre-litigation strategy has drummed up at least $350,000 in revenue by our estimate.

One of the tech sites I follow, Ars Technica, recently wrote an article about how college students are sticking it to the man.

According to the RIAA, some 116 students have used their new web site to settle copyright infringement claims, but that means that another 284, or 71 percent of students contacted through the program aren’t taking the easy way out. At least not yet.

But, let me get to the point. If you are caught downloading stuff illegally you should pay for your lack of technical track-covering. There are plenty of ways to avoid getting caught, and if you haven’t figured that out by now, then you deserve to get owndizzled by the man (ie: the RIAA).

Personally, I hate the recording industry, and the techniques that they are using to maintain their stranglehold on basic music freedoms. Suing your customers is not the best way to keep loyal customers (unless customers are physically attached to the product - like a crackberry).
