Followup: The 69 Rankings Part 1

July 9th, 2007

As many of you know, I got Dugg yesterday. Just want to take the time to thank you guys for the Diggs.

Now, I would like to write about my justifications for The 69, throw in some rankings, and post the mashed up RSS feed for them.

The list took me a long time to compile and put the screenshots up. For this reason you might notice the “Part 1″ in the title.

I am taking the words of my reader Brian.

Perhaps a few words on what each blog covers would be nice since I’m not familiar with all of them and I don’t necessarily have time to investigate each one.

Here are the 69 ranked and grouped. Also, I wrote a little blurb about each of them.

The Heavy Hitters: Money Maker Edition

These blogs usually have lots of subscribers, lots of hits, or both. What makes them different from the next category, is the

3. Techcrunch

TechCrunch

Blurb: TechCrunch is one of the most famous tech blogs. Written by Micheal Arrington, it is read by pretty much everybody who wants to know anything about tech news. Arrington is supposed to have made 1 Million dolares so far.

11. Lifehacker

Lifehacker

Blurb: Lifehacker is a blog about “Getting Things Done”. It had some really great articles recently including the Top 10 Ways to Declutter Your Digital Life and Advanced file and attachment management with Gmail. I mainly read it for the LifeHacker Specials, since they are original articles, while most of the others are just reposting links.

14. ValleyWag

Blurb: ValleyWag is great. It is about two of my favorite blog topics, technology and gossip. It sometimes has the same downsides as Lifehacker. Both of them are owned by corporate, Gawker. They both make mucho moulah.

31. TUAW

TUAW

Blurb: I don’t have a Mac, but if I did this is the blog that would probably get the most attention. Really great. Although sometimes they steal stories. And take credit for it. See Smaran Dayal’s post: TUAW.

55. Tech Dirt

techdirt

Blurb: Very Good blog again. This should be on your list if you want to call yourself a geek.

NEW ADDITIONS: Don’t Get A Number

Ars Technica
Blurb: Multiple people commented on the absence of Ars Technica.

You don’t read Ars Technica? And you call yourself a geek?! :-D

Yes, I am a geek, so here is my apology.

I am sorry Ars. I didn’t mean to degrade you, or lower your self esteem. I hope this makes you feel better. You are really a great blog, and although you probably didn’t notice the fact that my insignificant post is no longer insignificant, I hope this blazes the trail to redemption.

Enough with the groveling. Ars Technica is Another Must Have.

Forward

My questions for you:

Is there a way to mash multiple feeds together? If there is, please comment and tell me how to do it, or where to do it.

Have any more blogs you would like to add? Post suggestions in the comment box. I would love them.

Can you post the OPML?? In Google Reader, Settings…Import/Export.

I don’t know, but I will try it.

    Anybody else have any ideas?

TUAW is an odd one, sometimes they cover decent mac news but quite often they miss some really great stories you find elsewhere on the web.

There’s a lot of ways to mash multiple feeds into one. Shoot me an email and I’ll help you out with that.

Keep in mind that you might want to get permission for this before doing it, however. Not all publishers would like their feed distributed by someone else.

As Steve noted, OPML is probably the easiest route. You can do it the Google Reader way or just do it in newsfire/netnewswire, etc.
