7 Minutes With Noah Kagan

August 1st, 2007

If all of you didn’t notice, I wrote a post about legit tech blogs, and there really are some pretty cool people on it. One guy that just happens to be on that list is Noah Kagan.

In recent years, Noah has worked at the most legit social networking site ever, Facebook, and is now working at MyMint, a site dedicated to helping lazy people make money. His site has an average of 1700 subscribers.

I have some questions about okdork. Ya digging?

Go on.

Numero Uno, Initially how did your site gain popularity? Was it digg?

I been doing it for 7 years. One link at a time. Patience. Digg has helped slightly…

Did you just tell your friends, “Yo, check this out!” or did you have an actual strategy? (Not implying that he didn’t have a strategy)

What did I do? I just found people that should be reading and I got their attention.

So, I was reading one of your posts, and I found something that you said really interesting.

2) People don’t notice you, your site, your business…make them

Any particular tips?

Basically, You just have to step up and see what do you want to get out of it. 100,000 readers and what?

So for you, that meant, “I want to be known for burritos, marketing, and social networking?”

(Quite matter of factly..) No. I want to be a branded as an expert in social networking, marketing, and things. The Leader of Young Entrepreneurs!!

Creating a brand sort of? So everybody knows YOU?

Exactly.

Did you make any “mistakes” or something that you would want to go back and change?

About my life? Everything. It stinks sometimes, but accepting it and moving forward is most important. Learning and moving forward fast. Which I am not great at.

As a seasoned blogger, is there any advice you would give a brand new blogger?

Yea. Don’t.

Laughs.

No point. Yea it’s simple. Figure out why you are doing it and want to accomplish before you start.

What is your favorite blog, or what blogs do you subscribe to?

Okdork.com.

Laughs again.

Pronet Advertising, Copyblogger, Micahville, Techmeme.

If you could have lunch (or breakfast..or dinner) with anybody, dead or alive, who would it be?

Myself. Every day. Let me think. Harry potter.

You mean Harry Potter, or the actor who does Harry Potter (or Emma Watson - Hermione)?

Harry Potter himself!

I just want to thank Noah for the interview, and take this time to ask you guys some questions? Are there any questions you think I should ask in the future? Who would you like me to do an interview with? Who would you like to interview? Stop being a comment lurker.
