Summer Scheduling and Catchup

eiffeltour

Dear Readers of Micahville,

I have just recently graduated from high school and returned from an extended trip to Europe with my family. On this trip, I visited the beautiful cities of Barcelona and Paris, and then finished my stay in a hamlet in the south of France.

It was a beautiful trip and I managed to get many books read, much music listened to, and many thoughts contemplated.

Ch-cha-cha-chaaaangees, time to face the strange

Wow, this is a lot of change. But, before I give you time to catch your breath – wait, there’s more.

I have switched to the Dark Side – yep, thats right: I caved in and bought an Apple laptop (Although “caved” would be just an attempt at a lame excuse for why I finally decided to make the change. I will go into the reasoning behind my decision in a later post, I promise.)

On another note, I will be attending college next year at Brandeis University with a major in Neuroscience.

Goals

Now that I have returned intact from Europe – just today, actually – I am looking forward to using my time this summer to once again continue with Micahville.

Some other goals I have planned for this summer are: gaining a more in depth grasp of Python, as well as reading lots more books, and doing flashcards to work on vocabulary – all nerdy things but all hopefully will help with keeping my brain from getting rusty over the summer.

And now, considering that it is already at an hour that is considered late in California – not to mention in France, where I was a short while ago – I say goodnight.

I can identify with “The Really Busy Person’s Guide to Political Activism”

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

by Remi Thornton

Slate published an article today about how busy bodies on the political and scene can hustle up some presidential gusto.

The campaigns will tell you every bit helps, and they’re right. But some tactics help more than others. A lot of it depends where you live and how much money you make. Say you make $10 an hour—should you donate $100 or volunteer for 10 hours? (Quick answer: If you live in Dayton, volunteer; if you live in Berkeley, donate.) For that reason, we’ve divided activism strategies into two categories: If You Have Time and If You Have Money. We then look at the best—and worst—ways to spend it before November.

Dear Readers,

I am not dead. Seriously. I know y’all must have thought so. This summer I was in the small Nicaraguan town of El Guabo, Nicaragua. I lived and lived with the Gutierrez’s along with approximately seventy other families. While there, the community, my partners, and I raised money to fund the area’s first local library. Additionally, as a community we came together to construct a floor in the local high school/community center/sometime community fiesta location.

Firefox is Finishing Up New Theme

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

I just downloaded the latest Firefox trunk, and for me (on Linux), it got a new icon theme.  If I change to a different GNOME theme, Firefox seems to adjust to the new theme based on specific GNOME settings.  As of December 2, 2007, the Windows version of the trunk does not have any theme/visual improvements since older trunk versions.  Try and download it here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/

None of this seems final though, but it does look great :-)

In The Tubes

Friday, November 9th, 2007

It seems like the tubes were clogged. However, now I am back. Due to some foreseen interferences with my life, also known as Marching Band, I had to take a hiatus from publishing amazing articles. Yet, now I am back. Aren’t you happy?

In addition, there will now be more changes to Micahville!

  • Every three days, at maximum, I will make a worthwhile post. Not a silly little reposting, but something original. If you want to get great content, you will know where to come.
  • I am interested in the creativity and ideas of others. If you would like to write a post or you have any input/ideas/advice, send me an email at micah@micahville.com or tell me through the contact form.

Seeing as how that is it, I will now return to the task at hand. Stay tuned.
