In contrast to the post that I wrote yesterday, I wanted to suggest this list of Facebook Apps that are actually useful. Pssshaw! Read it here.

Today, there is a smattering of posts about Linux, which I will be switching to full-time soon. Alot are about Ubuntu, my Linux of choice, and here are some reviews.

Torrent Sites Being Taken Down By Evil?

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Ruh Roh. While browsing results for some band research about Children of Bodom, I noticed a link to Fulltorrent.

I clicked, yet I got an error message. More specifically, a “Site has been suspended” message.

I hope this doesn’t mean the end for Fulltorrent. In addition, I hope J.K. Rowling’s lawyers aren’t behind this.

I have taken a screen shot, and added my own commentary.

If you have any more details, or would like to just plain speculate, feel free to leave a comment. Tell me that I am being alarmist.

P.S. If you want something fun to do for a couple of days, print spoilers on your car, and drive around, park next to Harry Potter fanbois, and recite the spoilers by heart.

All the spoilers are here.

Digg!

A Free Business Idea

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Recently, I have been reading Liar’s Poker, a title that refers to a game much like the one played in Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Except there are two major differences. [The game Liar's poker is described here]

The First: They are playing with numbers on dollar bills, and not the dice version.

The Second: they are playing for millions of dollars, not for years spent on a sailing ship. Both are played by swash buckling pirates.

The premise of the book is the entertaining, yet cut throat nature of business at Soloman Brothers, one of the largest investment banks that traded in bonds. The book trails the writer and his rise through the company ranks, and it is quite interesting.

Harry Potter Is A Leaking

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Just read a short post that one of the bloggers on my list made. Smaran.

Smaran blogs for Torrentfreak, and I got wind of his story via a friend.

Over the past couple of weeks, numerous torrents have surfaced online claiming to be the 7th and last Harry Potter book. They are all fakes. Fan fiction. This one, on the other hand, is the real thing. Someone has managed to get their hands on the American edition of the book and has photographed each page of the book and uploaded it to BitTorrent.

Thanks to Corey for the Tip.

A First Look at Digg

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

I dugg this up from TechCrunch’s Archives.

Digg is very early stage, sort of pre-beta. But its getting some buzz. Think of it as slashdot but potentially better. We first came accross it at TheShiftedLibrarian and after checking out the service ourselves we were quite impressed.

In their own words, “Digg is a technology news website that gives editorial control back to the community. Most technology websites allow users to suggest content by submitting links or stories to an editor. If the editor believes the story to be relevant to the masses, he or she moves the story to the homepage. With digg, users also submit links for review. But rather than allowing an editor to decide which links go on the homepage, the users do.”

I found it quite amusing.

The relevant link is here.
