UPDATE: Harry Potter Is A Leaking

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Yesterday, I headlined a post about TorrentFreak linking to a copy of Harry Potter’s book. Today, TorrentFreak is underattack by Ms. Rowling’s bloodthirsty lawyers. Here is the main body of text that pertains to the matter.

update: A few minutes ago we received an anonymous e-mail from a “Harry Potter” fan who threatened to take down TorrentFreak if we didn’t remove our article about the leak of of “Deathly Hallows” (apparently afraid of spoilers, feel free to laugh).

He claims (with an army of Potter fanboys) to be responsible for the “attack” on our servers. Of course we don’t negotiate with terrorists! Besides that, I doubt that he’s really behind it.

update: On a sidenote, J.K. Rowling’s lawyers asked us to take down our Harry Potter leak article. Pretty strange because it is just a news post mainstream media like The New York Times, CNET, The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal also posted articles about the leak after we broke the news.

I will keep you filled in as more details emerge.

Save Kwik-E-Mart

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

I am posting this on July 14. That gives us 17 Days.

What am I talking about? I want to save Kwik-E-Mart, so that they can live forever in consumerist glory.

If you haven’t heard:

7-11 converted some of its franchises to Kwik-E-Marts as a promotion. We can make it more than a promotion. We can make it real.

By getting a large user response, fans have saved many things in the past.

When CBS canceled Jericho, fans sent in a truck full of nuts, which was an inside joke from the shows script. Michelle Malkin blogged it, and the stunt got so much exposure that the show was saved.

The organizer of the campaign said this:

Clarke Ingram is one of the people who starting working on a campaign earlier this month. Before the series even ended, he and others on the Web started talking about what to do if CBS decided to cancel the show.

“I’m 50 years old and this is the best show I’ve ever seen,” Ingram said.

He and other fans just started tossing out ideas. Radio host Shaun O’Mac also started talking about “Jericho.”

So why nuts?

In the final episode of “Jericho,” the town is under siege from a neighboring community.

When asked to surrender, lead character Jake Green, played by Skeet Ulrich, has a one-word response: “Nuts.”

The response is in reference to Gen. Anthony McAuliffe, a U.S. Army general who in World War II was surrounded by Germans demanding his surrender.

His response: “Nuts.”

The fictional residents of “Jericho” took Jake Green’s “nuts” as a rallying cry as they fought the larger force from the neighboring town. Fans never got to see the outcome of the battle. The season — and now apparently the show — ended there.

So is CBS nuts?

“Right now they are,” Russell said. “They still have time to change their minds.”

I think that we can all agree, at least the people that have been there, that is should be preserved. Like the bald eagle. Or the humpback whale.

It is that important.

The story will close on July 31 at midnight if nothing is done.

The owner can be swayed if we the masses rise up in defense of our Kwik-E-Mart-Having-Rights.

Only with your help can we continue to possess this valuable amenity.

Please join me in saving this local landmark/series of local landmarks. That would be great.

Sincerely,
Micah Lerner

Followup: The 69 Rankings Part 1

Monday, July 9th, 2007

As many of you know, I got Dugg yesterday. Just want to take the time to thank you guys for the Diggs.

Now, I would like to write about my justifications for The 69, throw in some rankings, and post the mashed up RSS feed for them.

The list took me a long time to compile and put the screenshots up. For this reason you might notice the “Part 1″ in the title.

I am taking the words of my reader Brian.

Perhaps a few words on what each blog covers would be nice since I’m not familiar with all of them and I don’t necessarily have time to investigate each one.

Here are the 69 ranked and grouped. Also, I wrote a little blurb about each of them.

OJ Book. Leaked.

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Oh man. Uh, oh. A long long time ago, there were rumors of Rupert Murdoch’s* publishing house working in conjunction with O.J. Simpson on a book.

It would not have been an ordinary book. Although OJ was accused of a series of murders he was not convicted. Therefore, the wise man decided to write a “theoretical” book about how he would have done it (which he says he didn’t).

The Strangest Things.

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

I just got home about 15 minutes ago, and I jumped straight onto mi computadora for the first time in two weeks. It feels great to be back.

The days preceding my return were a tiny bit tense, considering that two bombs were found in London, and one actually exploded in Glasgow. It seemed sort of surreal and Twilight Zonish to have been to the place that was attacked. It also rained alot.

On a side note: the semi-annoying (yet strangely amusing) British accents are more pronounced on the BBC; everyone seems so snobbish there.

I just want to thank Jeff for putting in his time and effort into producing some entertaining posts for me while I was gone, however some of you might have noticed that they have been removed for the moment. I have put them in mothballs for a tad, while I reformat them (adding spacing, etc.) to make them more fitted for a computer screen. I would love to add illustrations or the like to spice them up a little more.

This brings me to my amatuer photography skills. While on my travels, I took lots of pictures, the majority of which will be on my Flickr account later this week if not later today. Some are quite delightful, at least in my opinion.

In the meantime, here are some links that I dugg up.

[ART] Ray Frenden Photo’s
A really awesome artist that I found. He makes pretty interesting stuff, including some artsy T-shirts that you can find at Oddica

[Blog] Ghetto iPhone

So, if you are ever in the market for a non-genuine iPhone this guy has the stuff. Duct tape + Technology is genius. Have fun indulging yourself.

[Blog] Spam Art

If you spam me, I will make art out of you. Interesting, if not a strangely quirky way to express yourself. Pretty at times.

That’s it for now. Toodaloo! Cathcing up on my sleep lag now.
